White Kaolin Clay Mask – The Gentlest Cleansing for Your Skin
White kaolin clay is the mildest type of clay in existence. While green clay and rhassoul cleanse deeply and absorb excess sebum, kaolin does the opposite: it cleanses your skin so gently that even the most sensitive skin reacts well to it. This makes it the ideal choice if your skin reacts quickly to stronger types of clay, but you still want to benefit from the advantages of a clay mask.
For €7.95, you will receive a tin of clay powder that allows you to create multiple masks.
What is white kaolin clay?
Kaolin clay, also known as China Clay, is a natural mineral that has been used in skincare for centuries. It is extracted from kaolinite, a soft rock consisting primarily of the mineral aluminum silicate. The name refers to the Chinese hill Kao-Ling, where this clay was first mined.
What distinguishes kaolin from other types of clay is its extremely fine grain structure. The particles are so small that they do not irritate the skin, even with repeated use. This makes white kaolin clay one of the few clay masks suitable for daily or regular use, which is not recommended for green clay or rhassoul.
What does white kaolin clay do for your skin?
🤍 Cleanses without drying out Most clay masks draw moisture from the skin while cleansing. Kaolin does not. It absorbs light excess sebum and removes impurities from the skin's surface, while keeping your skin’s natural moisture balance intact. After use, your skin feels clean and comfortable, not tight or dry.
🤍 Calms irritated skin Kaolin clay has a naturally soothing effect. It creates a fine layer over the skin that reduces irritation and can soothe redness. Customers with sensitive skin confirm this: "soft skin afterwards" and "even my sensitive skin is happy with this".
🤍 Supports the skin barrier Instead of breaking down the skin barrier (as stronger types of clay can do), kaolin supports it. The clay draws impurities toward itself without affecting the skin's protective layer. This makes it suitable for skin that reacts quickly to active ingredients.
🤍 Improves the absorption of your day cream A clay mask removes the layer of dead skin cells and sebum covering your face. After rinsing, your skin is cleaner and smoother, allowing your day or night cream to be better absorbed and work more effectively. This is one of the most important, yet least known, benefits of using a clay mask regularly.
🤍 Suitable for regular use While green clay or rhassoul is recommended once a week, kaolin clay can be used 2 to 3 times a week without stressing your skin. This makes it ideal as a permanent part of your weekly care routine.
Instructions for use
- Mix a teaspoon of clay powder with a little bit of water or hydrosol (e.g., rose water) until you have a smooth, spreadable paste.
- Apply a thin, even layer to your face. Avoid the eyes and lips.
- Let the mask sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Important: do not let the mask dry completely; if it starts to pull or crack, rinse it off. A clay mask works best when it is still slightly damp.
- Rinse with lukewarm water and pat your face dry with a clean towel.
- Apply your usual day or night cream afterwards. Your skin will now absorb the nourishment better.
💡 Tip: Mix the clay with rose water instead of tap water for an extra calming experience. Or add a drop of honey for extra hydration.
💡 Tip: Use a wooden or plastic spoon to mix the clay; metal can react with the minerals in the clay.
