Shampoo bars for curly hair
Curly hair is naturally drier than straight hair: sebum from the scalp travels a longer path to the ends. That is why for curls, we primarily recommend choosing from our nourishing line. All bars in this collection are CG-proof, vegan, and handmade in the Netherlands.
Which bar suits your curls?
- Coconut– our best-selling bar and the safest first choice for dry curls. Creamy, tropical, with keratin and wheat protein.
- Mango– sweet and summery, great if your curls feel dull.
- Ylang Ylang– floral-exotic, with real essential oil instead of perfume oil.
- Jasmine & Sandalwood– warm and luxurious, a spa moment in the shower.
- Wild Cherry– fruity, popular with colored curls.
- Mystic Vanilla– soft and sweet, one of the favorites for curls.
- Hydrate & Repair– the most intensive option, with argan oil and red clay. For curls that need more than just daily maintenance.
Always combine with a conditioner bar— for curls, this is not a luxury, but half the work. Want to go one step further? Take a look at our hair masks.
How to wash curls with a bar
Do not rub the bar roughly over your lengths — that causes tangles. Create lather between your hands and massage that into your scalp; the foam that rinses down your lengths is enough for the rest. Afterward, use the conditioner bar only on your lengths and ends.
Comb your hair while the conditioner is in, never when it's dry. And squeeze your curls dry with a cotton shirt instead of rubbing them with a towel.
Frequently asked questions about curls and the Curly Girl method
Are these shampoo bars CG-proof?
Yes, all bars in this collection are. They contain no silicones and no sulfates excluded by the Curly Girl method. Want to know the ins and outs? The ingredient list is on each product page.
I'm just starting the CG method. Where do I begin?
With Coconut, combined with the matching conditioner bar. Expect a transition period of two to four weeks: your hair is getting used to the lack of silicones and may feel different during this time. That will settle down.
My curls are frizzy. What now?
Frizz is usually a moisture issue. Use the conditioner bar more generously, let it soak in for two minutes, and rinse with lukewarm instead of hot water. If that doesn't help enough, add a hair mask once a week.
Does a shampoo bar lather enough for thick curly hair?
Yes, but less abundantly than a sulfate shampoo — and that’s how it should be. Wet your hair thoroughly before you begin; not enough water is the most common reason a bar doesn't seem to lather.
