Productomschrijving

Green Clay Face Mask – The Most Powerful Cleansing for Blemished Skin

Green clay is the strongest type of clay in our range. While white kaolin soothes and red clay stimulates blood circulation, green clay does one thing exceptionally well: absorbing excess sebum and drawing impurities out of the skin. This is the clay for those who suffer from oily, shiny skin, clogged pores, or recurring blemishes.

For €7.95, you receive a tin of clay powder that allows you to prepare multiple masks.

What is green clay?

Green clay, also known as French Green Clay or Illite, is a mineral-rich type of clay that owes its green color to a combination of iron oxide and decomposed plant material. It has been used in French skincare for centuries and is known for its exceptionally strong absorption power.

The mineral in this product, Montmorillonite, has a unique crystal structure that works like a sponge. It draws fat, dirt, and impurities towards itself and locks them in. That absorption power is many times stronger than that of white kaolin or red clay. This makes green clay so effective, but it also means that you must use it more cautiously.

What does green clay do for your skin?

🟢 Absorbs excess sebum This is the core benefit of green clay. The clay draws excess sebum (skin oil) out of the pores like a magnet. After the mask, your skin immediately feels less shiny and oily. With regular use (maximum once a week), it can help regulate sebum production, making your skin feel matte and fresh for longer.

🟢 Tackles impurities Clogged pores, blackheads, and minor blemishes occur because sebum, dead skin cells, and dirt accumulate in the pores. Green clay draws this accumulation to the skin surface, clearing the pores. After rinsing, the skin is noticeably cleaner and smoother.

🟢 Refines pores By cleansing the pores and regulating sebum production, pores look more refined over time. The skin texture becomes smoother and more even.

🟢 Balances the skin Oily and combination skin often have zones that produce too much sebum (T-zone: forehead, nose, chin) and zones that are drier (cheeks). Green clay helps to regulate sebum production without drying out the drier zones further, provided you do not leave the mask on for too long.

Important: green clay is powerful

Green clay is the strongest type of clay in our range. This means you must use it with respect:

⚠️ Maximum once a week. Using it more often can irritate your skin and actually increase sebum production (your skin will compensate by producing more oil).

⚠️ Do not let the mask dry completely. This is the most important rule for green clay. If the mask hardens completely on your face, it draws too much moisture from your skin and can cause irritation, redness, and a burning sensation. Rinse the mask off as soon as it starts to dry, after 10 to 15 minutes, or sooner if you feel a tightening sensation.

⚠️ Not suitable for sensitive or dry skin. If your skin reacts easily to active products, green clay is too strong. In that case, choose our White Kaolin, the mildest clay in our range.

⚠️ Test first. Apply a small amount of prepared clay to the inside of your wrist. Wait 15 minutes. Is your skin not reacting? Then you can safely use it on your face.

Who is this clay mask for?

Green clay is the ideal choice for:

  • Oily skin that gets shiny quickly and produces excessive sebum
  • Blemished skin with clogged pores, blackheads, or small pimples
  • Combination skin with an oily T-zone
  • Those who want a weekly deep cleanse as a supplement to their daily routine

Not the right choice for: Sensitive skin that reacts easily, choose White Kaolin. Mature skin seeking glow and vitality, choose Red Clay.

Green Clay vs Bentonite — what is the difference?

Both are powerful cleansers for oily and blemished skin. But they work differently:

🟢 Green Clay (this product) – Absorbs sebum at the skin surface. Tackles surface impurities and blackheads. Smoother in texture, easier to apply.

🟫 Bentonite – Swells upon contact with water and penetrates deeper into the pores. Highest absorption capacity. For stubborn, deeper-lying impurities. Lumpier in texture, requires more careful mixing.

💡 Rule of thumb: Start with green clay. If your skin reacts well but you notice that the impurities are not disappearing completely, switch to bentonite for a deeper cleanse.

Instructions for use

  1. Mix one teaspoon of clay powder with a little bit of water or hydrosol until you have a smooth, spreadable paste.
  2. Apply a thin, even layer to your face. Avoid the eyes and lips. For combination skin, you can apply the mask only to the T-zone.
  3. Leave the mask on for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse off before it dries completely. As soon as you feel a pulling or tight sensation, it is time to rinse. This prevents irritation.
  4. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat your face dry with a clean towel.
  5. Follow with a moisturizing day or night cream. Your skin will absorb the care better now.

💡 Tip: Use a wooden or plastic spoon to mix the clay; metal can react with the minerals in the clay.

💡 Tip: Spritz your face lightly with water halfway through the application time if the mask is drying too quickly. This prevents irritation.

💡 Tip for combination skin: Apply green clay only to the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) and use White Kaolin on the cheeks. This way, you treat each zone with the right clay.

Frequently asked questions about this product
