Shampoo bar and greasy hair.

Oily hair is very difficult to treat. This is because the cause does not lie with shampoo, as many people think. An oily scalp is caused by the sebaceous glands in the scalp. These produce too much sebum, causing your hair to become oily. Sebum itself, in normal amounts, is very good for your hair. It is a natural conditioner, it gives a healthy shine, and protects your hair against external influences.

Out of balance.

The balance of sebum production can be disrupted by influences within your body. Think of hormonal factors (puberty, pregnancy, or menopause), but also diet, medication, or a weakened immune system. However, external influences can also be a cause. Think of autumn/winter with the wearing of hats/hoods, or central heating. Stimulation of the scalp, such as washing and combing, also plays a role. The more you stimulate your scalp, the more sebum will be produced. Many people find that by washing more often, it actually doesn't get better but gets oily faster.

There is little you can do about internal influences. Except to use a good degreasing shampoo that (unfortunately) contains sulfates. Sulfates like Sodium Coco Sulfate (SCS) or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) are super degreasers. When your body's balance is restored, you can slowly switch to a sulfate-free shampoo, such as our shampoo bar.

Are the influences external? The trick is…wash as little as possible. It sounds very unnatural, but as mentioned before, the more you stimulate your scalp, the more sebum is produced. A degreasing shampoo is recommended, but it can also be a natural shampoo like ours. Natural degreasing shampoos often have fruity scents. The fruit acids have a degreasing effect.

Tips:

1: While showering, use your hands in your hair as little as possible. Apply it briefly and let it soak in. Do not massage the shampoo in, and do not work it through the hair when rinsing. Let the water do the work when rinsing.

2: Do use conditioner. Washing opens your hair cuticles. These must close again, otherwise, you lose a lot of moisture. Many people also find that the ends are actually very dry. Do not apply the conditioner to the scalp (it is already oily enough) but only to the lengths/ends of your hair.

3: Dry your hair by wrapping the towel around your head. Do not rub the towel through your hair. This is also stimulation of the scalp.

4: Brush/comb your hair as little as possible. The longer you fuss with your hair, the more you stimulate the sebaceous glands.

5: If possible, wear a ponytail. The reason is that you are less inclined to run your hands through your hair (often unnoticed).

6: Use dry shampoo in between to prevent washing your hair daily. Dry shampoo absorbs some of the oiliness, making your hair look fresh and clean again.

All in all, a lot of information, but as you can see, shampoo plays almost no role in preventing oily hair. Our shampoo helps with degreasing, but no shampoo (none at all) can prevent you from having an oily scalp. In addition, we also add rice protein to our shampoo. Many people also experience limp hair that lacks volume. Rice has the nice property that it expands in volume upon contact with water. This protein, therefore, gives your hair a little more volume. A whole lot of information. It depends a bit on the cause which product is best for you. But do you have any additional questions? Feel free to ask them in the chat on our website or send an email to contact@beesha.nl.
